Union Executive Board

4:06 pm in Troy    Sunday, Nov 22

The Executive Board is the chief financial body of the Union and is the mechanism by which students directly manage the Union itself. It is chaired by the President of the Union (PU). The E-Board, as it is affectionately known, assembles and manages an annual budget of over $8.9 million, supervises clubs, and determines operating policies for the Union facilities themselves. The E-Board does this with the close cooperation of many people within the Union Administration Office, Athletics Department, and related support organizations. After Winter Break, the Executive Board will spend about four days going through all budget proposals and approving and disapproving them according to the Union Budget Policies and Guidelines. These decisions shape the Activity Fees for the following year, which are paid by undergraduate and graduate students to make possible the varied activities of the Union. During other times of the year, the E-Board meets weekly to hear requests for extra funds allocations and other money-related matters.

I am from a club and have a matter to discuss with the Executive Board? How should I get on the agenda?

First, stop by the Union Administration Office on the third floor of the Union or contact the President of the Union at pu AT rpi DOT edu. If you have a club proposal, your request will first be considered by the Constitution Committee of the Executive Board. Once your issue is ready to be brought before the Board proper, the PU and the Vice Chair will place you on the agenda and notify you by email when you are expected to show up to present your case.

I'm interested in becoming a member of the Executive Board!

Great! E-Board applications are available in hanging folders around the bulletin boards within the Union building early in the Fall semester. You can also contact the PU directly at pu AT rpi DOT edu for more information.

What are the time requirements of serving on the E-Board?

Each E-Boarder is given a certain number of clubs for which they are responsible. The E-Boarder is expected to be an effective liaison, communicating problems or questions from both the Board and the organization. A dedicated member should expect to commit four to five hours a week on average to their duties. Applications will be available shortly after Freshman Elections.
